The gates open for Chris’ Concert 2013 at 1:30pm on Saturday, July 20 at Granite Gorge in Roxbury, NH, featuring a day of live music and culminating with a fireworks display at 9pm. This is the 2nd annual benefit event to honor the memory of Christine Patten, daughter of Marcia and Roland Patten of Peterborough, who passed away in 2010.
Headlining this year’s music festival is Soul and Blues duo Dwight & Nicole featuring Nicole Nelson. In addition to being a finalist on NBC’s The Voice, Nicole recently picked up her first Boston Music Award for “Female Vocalist of the Year.” The Travis Colby Band, The Peter Malick Revue, and regional favorite Ghost Dinner Band round out the line-up.
For the second year in a row, all proceeds will benefit The Grapevine of Antrim, a family and community resource center serving children, youth and adults in the Monadnock region.
According to Cheryl Barlow, long-time friend of Chris Patten and one of the concert organizers, Patten was a residential counselor for the Center of Life Management in Derry, working with displaced teenage girls. She also assisted her parents at Roland’s Auto Service in Peterborough, and worked at the Rynborn Restaurant & Blues Club in Antrim and Keene, NH.
“Chris enjoyed life, particularly her Harley Davidson Street Glide, camping, cooking, music, reading, artistic pursuits, classic cars, visiting her family and traveling. She was known for her smile, her laughter and her kindness to others.”
The Boston Globe calls Dwight & Nicole “Riveting” and describes their eclectic debut album, !Signs, as “a tour de force that demands much wider success… poignant… hard driving… and heavenly.” Dr. Maya Angelou is a fan, exclaiming them to be simply“Magnificent!”
Influenced by Otis Redding, Etta James and John Lee Hooker, the duo has shared bills with Dr. John, Buddy Guy, BB King, Dave Brubeck, Norah Jones, Ray LaMontagne, The Avette Brothers, Levon Helm, Dr. Maya Angelou, Natalie Cole, Winton Marsalis, Carly Simon, The Funk Brothers, Maceo Parker, Joan Osbourne, and Chuck Berry. They were recently nominated for 4 Boston Music Awards and 3 Boston Phoenix awards, starred in the documentary film “Where’s the Music At?” and have been featured at theTangelwood Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Symphony Hall and the Blue Note in NYC.
The Travis Colby Band:
Travis Colby has been playing piano and guitar professionally for many years, touring and recording with Grammy award winning Luther ‘Guitar Junior’ Johnson for a six year tenure and international recording artists Roomful of Blues from 2004-2012. Colby brings the energy and inspiration of these artists to his band, playing and singing a mixture of Blues, Jazz, Funk, R&B and original tunes fit to satisfy any crowd or venue. He was named ‘Best Keyboard Player’ three times in the long running “Blues Audience” magazine, and played on Luther Johnson’s Grammy nominated “Gotta Find a Way” in 2002, as well as three Roomful albums, “Standing Room Only”, “Raisin a Ruckus”, and “Hook, Line, and Sinker”.
The Peter Malick Revue featuring:
Spencer Livingston, Courtney Jones and Butch Norton:
Peter Malick is an accomplished guitarist, songwriter, producer and recording engineer. Peter along with Butch Norton and Jon Ossman will be backing up Spencer Livingston and Courtney Jones.
Los Angeles native Spencer Livingston grew up on a steady diet of rock Americana. His early love of Neil Young and Tom Petty was reinforced by a strong dose of Wilco. The son of actor Barry Livingston, who played Ernie Douglas on the 1960’s sitcom My Three Sons, Spencer is a natural performer. And though he was born and raised on the hem of Hollywood, Livingston has been nourished by a down-to-earth, artistic community supportive of his naturally rootsy inclination.
“Her songwriting is tight and smart, but it’s the strength and clarity of her voice that sets this Portland artist apart.”
“Jones has a sultry, strong Amy Lee (Evanescence) voice that holds its own among the myriad of sounds that threaten to turn her into the next, well, Amy Lee. ”
Music Connection Magazine
“Courtney Jones offers something that resonates with most people looking for depth, substance and intelligence in their music . . .”
“Courtney’s music is frequently compared to the likes of Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, and Anna Nalick. The comparisons are warranted, as she has a sound which falls into this genre and the talent to make lists that include these ladies.”
New Music Weekly
“ . . .a Pacific Northwest discovery that deserves your immediate attention. This amazing female artist is a cut above all the rest.”
The Ghost Dinner Band:
“Nobody is ever quite sure what to expect at a Ghost Dinner Band show. Nobody will tell you the same thing either. The best way to describe it is a whole century of rock music thrown at you in an eclectic time warp played with a surprising integrity, and feel for what you crave.“ Dana Unger of The Hippo Press
Lead by the captivating talent of front man Kyle Webber (lead guitar, vocals, and song writing) and avidly backed by Eric Boulter (drums), Josh Blair (bass), and Nate Bosworth (rhythm guitar), Ghost Dinner has an infinite amount of influences. This, in turn, leads to their loads of memorable originals, and refreshing covers, to please any music-loving crowd. With the character, raw energy, and drive this powerful 4 piece brings to each show it’s no wonder so many folks are coming back to find there is no limit to the places this group can bring a listener.
Chris’ Concert will offer a variety of food vendors, a beer garden and chair lift rides in the expansive outdoor setting at Granite Gorge. The day is topped off with a fireworks display from the top of the mountain at 9pm.
